Wow Sinead O’Connor Calls It!

Well color me speechless! While watching The Good Wife last night, the writers/producers made a bold statement. Alicia sat in on a review board involving a police officer with the last name Zimmerman who shot and killed an unarmed black man. That wasn’t a coincidence. Reading between the lines, Blue Ribbon Panel showed a very telling distribution of power. If you’re paying attention to whose interests are served and who has a seat at the table you will hopefully start considering your future. It wasn’t the key plot of the episode, but it certainly packed a wallop!

I’ve always enjoyed Sinead O’Connor for her insight, musicality and fearlessness. I can’t think of many modern-era entertainers who’ve been so willing to put themselves on the line for their beliefs, flaws and all. Here’s an excerpt of a recent post at her blog worth reading. She discusses the death of Trayvon Martin, but unlike many delves into core truths without being paternalistic.

She acknowledges the contributions of African-Americans with great insight and shows respect for black women. This is what an ally does. After you’ve had time to digest it, ask yourself how this woman “gets it” while so many black women choose Blackistan? Again, this exemplifies how other groups of people see our inherent power – and our stumbling blocks. Our image matters. What we think about ourselves matters. Thanks Sinead!

EVERY human being on earth, no matter what their culture, creed, skin colour, or nationality, shares one gene traceable back to one African woman. Scientists have named it ‘The Eve Gene’. This means ALL of us, even ridiculously stupid, ignorant, perverted, blaspheming racists are the descendants of one African woman.

One African woman is the mother of all of us. Africa was the first world. You come from there! Your skin may be ‘white’.. because you didn’t need it to be black any more where you lived. But as Curtis Mayfield said.. “You’re just the surface of our dark, deep well”. So you’re being morons. And God is having the last laugh at your ignorant expense.

.Despite seeing every day, all your life, how you and your country would be less than wonderfully functioning and inspiring to the world, without the manifold and glorious contributions made by the descendants of African slaves….

Stop this ridiculous and uneducated attitude. You would be dead without black people. Think of all the greatest music ever composed. The greatest songs. The greatest inspirational heroes.. Muhammad Ali, Mandela, Martin Luther King, Harriet Tubman, Soujourner Truth, Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Curtis Mayfield. So many absolute angels, sent from God.

And black youth in America. I’m talking to you here too. I love you. So I don’t mean to sound cross, I’m just being a mother.. Why are you killing each other? Why are you hating yourselves?

Don’t be guided by rap. Gangsta or otherwise. Sure.. enjoy it.. adore it.as I do.. but realize this.. rap ain’t about your civil or spiritual rights, baby boys and girls. It..along with most music nowadays.. is about falsenesses and vanities. Bling, drugs, sex, guns and people- dissing. Its giving you the message you ain’t ‘good enough’ if you don’t have bling and ting.. and money. Or if you’re not what it deems ‘sexy’.

You know not how you are adored, appreciated, valued, loved, cried for, smiled for, prayed for, all over the world. You know not how much inspiration and uplift-ment of heart you give to millions just by your presence on earth.

        I'll see what I can do. :-)

About these Good Wife episodes, boy have they been boring lately. Its like they keep stunt caasting and bringing in all these relatively big names but to no avail. I dont get the whole arc of Kalinda's tax problems. (Big Snooze), the fight over Wil's vacated seat, or Alicia's newfound misguided loyalty to Peter. The kids are boring and the only interesting angle there was the son dating the totally gorgeous Black girl. They seemed to drop that as well. Also is Peter's mother the best nemesis they could find? Geesh!

Not to mention now they are back to being delayed because of the NCAA tournament. If CBS was trying to kill viewership, they are doing a bang up job.

Thanks everyone. This was something nice to be able to share. I hope you read the post in its entirety at her site.

That wa really nice. I've loved Sinead's music ever since I first saw her 'Nothing Compares 2 U' video for the first time back in the late 80s! I love The Lion and The Cobra album too. I still think that the US TV networks and other media outlets still owe her a big apology because she was basically right about the Catholic Church's coverups of pedophiles; six years later after her famous SNL appearance one of the longest running members of the Catholic Church in Boston was finally revealed to be a long-running pedophile from all the way back in the 60s at least.
