Would You Pay $3000 To Learn How To Marry Into Wealth?

Sorry gents, this is strictly for the ladies! Beijing’s Moral Education Centre for Women offers a 30-hour course in life skills and ways for marriage-focused women to appeal to men of means.

Instructors advise going to places that the rich frequent, such as fancy bars and private clubs, learning proper restaurant and dining etiquette, studying formal dress, staying indifferent when presented with luxury gifts and avoiding insincere flattery.

Some of this advice is universally sound. It could work for anyone who wants to expand their social circles. I can see where some people would twist the idea of positioning and expediency and make it into a calculated, self-serving venture. Who gives a ____!!

Snagging, Bagging & Tagging: White Men!

Yup, that’s a provocative title for sure. It’s a spin on the book Girls’ Guide To Hunting & Fishing. I was thus inspired by a little blogger troll who took issue with my Mrs. & Mr. Zuckerberg post from last week. Which was about how an average woman can position herself to live well and how marriage to a person who adds value certainly helps facilitate that. So sad…too bad certain people remain stuck on stoopid. It’s all about perspective..and choice.

Apparently Flat Earth Theorists know something we don’t. According to this scholar of relationships black women wouldn’t be interested in a man who came from a 2-parent home, espouses Middle Class values, busted his hump to get into Harvard, learned how to relate to women by trial and error – oh and is a game-changer. Oh yeah, I almost forgot – no OOW kids, criminal record or public displays of questionable behavior. Not to mention a Rolodex and access to certain social circles to die for.

Prop 8 Analysis From Around The Web

It was an interesting day on the Interwebs yesterday with the annual National Black HIV/AIDS Day (more on this ongoing initiative in a future post). What many were anticipating was a ruling from the Ninth Appellate Court of Appeals regarding Proposition 8.

You may recall the passage of Prop 8 banned same-sex marriage in California. In a cruel twist of fate it happened the same day Barack Obama won his bid for President. The backlash from certain quarters was immediate, vicious and irrational. Black voters were initially blamed even though they only comprise 6% of the State population.

In what appears to have been a precursor to the current swell of racial animus and nostalgia, latent attitudes were unleashed. There was a sudden rash of people who’d complain about being oppressed in some fashion engage in discrimination themselves.

Evaluating Men For Alliances & Marriage Series #8: The Curious Case Of A Real-Life “Good Wife” Maria Shriver

Ah…so many lessons can be learned by studying the choices of others – particularly women of privilege who are purported to “have it all”.

A story loosely based on the Schwarzenegger marriage may likely be a Lifetime Movie Of The Week that will air this Fall. I’d bet money on it! Hey ya’ll, just a few thoughts are going to be dispensed rapid-fire style so saddle up! The public revelation of the long-term infidelity and betrayal of Arnold Schwarzenegger that has finally culminated in the break-up of his marriage to Maria Shriver should not have come as a surprise to anyone paying attention. If you lived in California during the time of his and the Republican’s “Total Recall” election sham that ousted Governor Gray Davis you would have noted the allegations of his long-history of cheating and sexual aggression enacted against other women.

I applaud those who managed to keep this bombshell a secret FOR TEN YEARS though {HOW!!!} – he never would’ve been elected had the public gotten wind of it!! I know Newt Gingrich is planning a run for the White House and I laugh! If some people want to vote for a serial cheater who has been married multiple times and abandoned his former wives when ill – while espousing family values, I’ll call a FOOL a FOOL. From a political standpoint the Ah-nuld debacle is even more frightening than most have still processed because some of those political yahoos were talking about amending the Constitution to allow a foreign-origin President – him! Those are some powerful allies at work who wanted to deploy a Trojan Horse scenario. Look at the condition of California post- Ah-nuld. Not all of it has to do with the economy, but of course many aspects that have damaged this country are a direct result of policies enacted by (and in collusion with Democrats) Republicans.

WE DODGED A MAJOR BULLET!!!!

Evaluating Men For Alliances & Marriage Series #5: Angry Boys Need Not Apply!

Unless And Until He Puts A Ring On It You Are A Free Agent

Even then there are many men who say I Do but don’t Honor & Cherish. As the blog host of What Women Never Hear has stated, commitment doesn’t guarantee devotion. He’s of course writing about white society at large and I find it a useful template to compare. While the majority of men from other groups (read that as non-black) DO marry, the ties that bind are becoming looser the further away society moves from upholding core values.

Since 65% of black males in this country do NOT marry at all, I wouldn’t even waste my time considering them unless I was either:

a) not a black woman

b) a woman with some black heritage in the mix, who comes from a different culture and would otherwise be considered “exotic”, “light-skinned” etc. —  or

c) had a potential selection of men that had already been pre-screened for caliber and vetted by reliable sources.

That’s still a crap shoot either way you look at it!! Expanding your options is the only thing that makes sense.

How Old Is Too “Old” In Choosing a Partner When There’s An Age Gap?

Furthermore, where does gender play into those choices in heterosexual relationships and is there a double-standard for women? We know that women are being bombarded by conflicting messages of how we’re single hear us roar, that we can have sex like men or to not be burdened by being forced on a pedestal.  Someone even once suggested that men and women were like fish and bicycles.

The downside of this freedom is women getting caught without a rain jacket in a downpour — being saddled with the burden of child-rearing solo or coerced into sex earlier than many want, hurt feelings, exposure to infections, street harassment or other violence and an increasing dis-ease with our bodies and being more wary of men than ever before. Freedom always costs and the suggested choices made by some women may not be of any benefit to others.

Are Asian Women “Trophy” Wives Or Just Smart At Picking Quality Husbands?

If you go down a list of prominent and/or monied white males you may often find an (East) Asian woman as his wife of choice. Make no mistake about it, since white males dominate society they have the option of choosing a variety of women of any ethnicity or race.

It’s been a topic explored at the BWE/BWIR blogs for a reason. If more African-American women are going to take their rightful place on the global stage they’ve got to start thinking more strategically when it comes to the males they choose. Less baby mama/jump-off/pining hopeful girlfriend and more wife and/or mother component of a power couple.

Do That Many People Care About The Obama Marriage?

President Barack Obama and first lady Michelle Obama hand out ...

AP

So if you’ve been keeping up with serious political discourse gossip you may have heard that Barack and Shelly O are having their marriage dissected speculated on (again) by a newspaper (New York Times) trolling for more readers. The curiosity factor is said to be weighed heavily on this subject – so much so that it deserves yet another a feature story???

…the Obamas mix politics and romance in a way that no first couple quite have before. Almost 10 months ago, they swept into Washington with inauguration festivities that struck distinctly wedding-like notes: he strode down an aisle and took a vow, she wore a long white dress, the youthful-looking couple swayed to a love song in a ceremonial first dance and then settled into a new house… Sunday NYT

Mmmkay. Wasn’t the book enough already since it came after the Slate series, the coverage of political wives, the Ebony cover stories and countless others?

Guess not!

Now I thought that after nearly one year in office (I know!) some of this “curiosity” would have surely died down by now. So I have one question: why does the Obama marriage generate such interest?
