let me say a few things:

when I was in the Navy, there were several random acts of violence committed by service members against their fellow service members and upon civilians. Also there are high instances of attempted suicides.

working within the fed gov't I am encountering more and more people are being prescribed drugs for mental condition and more and more people seeing health care professionals due to several mental illnesses due to two wars.

there is NO mental evaluation given to new recruits as they enter the military. the military like other institutions are microcosms of the larger society.

Personally, I have stood suicide watch over many a fellow service member for a variety of reasons (marital problems, drug abuse, mental illnesses, etc.) . it is a well known secret that frankly our gov't refuses to really deal with.

Since this is a volunteer army the standards have continually been lowered. If I was serving I would take issue with unrepentant criminals trying to get out of jail being allowed to serve beside me. Now that person has been trained to kill and avoid capture. I’m waiting for some heinous act of violence to occur from those types of individuals."

In my opinion such a thing has already happened with the Pietrzak case:
 http://blackpoliticalthought.blogspot.com/2008/11...

I fear this is only the beginning...
