Inspirational Quotes Series: C.S. Lewis

I loved books and reading growing up. I would walk one mile each way to the public library and  come back with as many as my lending limit allowed: 12 books. This was in addition to my required schoolwork. I didn’t mind because skilled wordsmiths allowed me to go on so many amazing journeys. I definitely count The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe as a lifelong favorite.

I don’t know how many of you have seen the film, An Education (which is all at once charming, disturbing and poignant), but the scene where David gets Jenny’s parents to agree to a weekend away at Oxford to meet “Clive” nee C.S. gets me every time.

Did you know C.S. Lewis and J.R.R. Tolkien met and became friends while studying at Oxford? I wish the film adaptations for Narnia were as good as LOTH. What would the world be without Narnia and Middle Earth?  Luckily we won’t have to find out!

  1. Ian McKellan who played Gandalf is in a new TV sitcom in the UK right now that's called 'Vicious' and I saw the pilot for it a couple of nights ago. I totally loved it! Ian plays one half of an old gay couple who live together in a huge beautiful apartment that he and his partner keep in the dark and which also looks like it's stuck in Victorian or Edwardian times! Ian of course plays a retired actor. This alone by discription sounds dull but because Ian and his long term live-in boyfriend are so old, miserable, snarky and bitchy it ends up being so funny! LOL

I really hope that they keep this one going because I am NOT a reality TV fan. I don't care which country the reality show comes from, I'm not a fan! : )

  2. I love all of The Lord of The Rings trilogy but my fave is the last one The Return of The King and it was the only one I ever saw first on the big screen. It was beautiful because New Zealand the country they filmed it in is beautiful with all of the mountains and hills. Viggo Mortensen is hot in it also and I like when Emily Mortimer said 'I am no MAN!' No one can play Smeagol/Gollum like Andy Serkis. Sadly I've seen a picture of a woman who was once attractive facially but later became hooked on crank and possibly a thief to keep up her habit and she actually did end up looking like Smeagol/Gollum!

    1. Yikes! I saw the 2nd one over Xmas in Amsterdam back in '03 and it was crazy watching it with subtitles and the Elf language was over-dubbed too I think.

  3. This quote is nothing but the truth. Being a parent has resurrected my love of reading again, since I try to read to my little one daily. I am old enough to enjoy fairy tales that I once thought of as "childish" 🙂

    1. I've thought about how great an experience it would be to expose young minds to incredible tales as well as observing their wonder.
