I wanted to expand and continue our discourse on perception. Our outlook has a huge impact on the quality of our lives. Our need to be practical and realistic – under the guise of being prepared for the worst is a perfect example of our failure at trusting in a benevolent God. The universe is prepared to give. Are we ready to receive?
In my own life I’m currently asking this and other questions, like how some of the seemingly most lazy, vapid or negative people get fame and riches. They don’t add anything to society or worse cause harm to others. This isn’t just about individuals, but corporate interests that run counter to a nurturing world. Meanwhile, people are out of work or grossly underpaid.
At least that’s one way to think about it. Free will and all that jazz. Too much regulation is bad for businesses. Nobody wants to pay for $7 lettuce. It isn’t all about greed. Some folks from faraway lands can now take care of their families. The old models are dead. If millions of folks can buy the latest tech gadget things can’t really be that bad.
When I think about disparities, apathy and complicity it really burns my toast! If like attracts like (but it’s evil), how do you reconcile that? Are we not supposed to consider the suffering of others as we try to get ahead? Is it really about survival of the most ruthless, better-connected or otherwise unconcerned?
I don’t know.
What I do know – or I should say what I’m learning – is that we have to focus on what we DO want instead of what we don’t. I believe it’s a matter of approach. I don’t believe that means not correctly assessing specific circumstances or magical thinking. All of the necessary personal inventory, life assessment, therapy, spirit guidance, etc. still applies.
This is why I not only set my intentions for the day, but I look for ways to be grateful for something every day no matter how “mundane” it appears to be. I’m hyper-sensitive to iniquity and inequality especially when evaluating and comparing the status of women and children. It may be real, but it doesn’t have to be our permanent reality.
If like attracts like those who want different life circumstances will experience them regardless of wherever they may be at this present moment. I’m not just talking about money, but true life prosperity. Besides we’re not perfect. Many deeply flawed individuals still find ways to utilize vast resources to support social good.
Despite all the “chaos”, there has to be calm until such “chaos” fades into the background. Quiet the doubts that come to mind. It could be a smile from a stranger, finding an extra $5 bill in your jeans pocket or feeling the sunlight on your face. It may not always be the easiest thing to do, but we can start looking for tiny ribbons of gold starting today. Watch how much better your overall outlook shifts or your mood remains more even-keeled in the next few weeks as you align yourself with the gentler side of the stars. Be replenished and joyful!!
