Evaluating Men For Alliances & Marriage Series #12: Men In Love

When Men [and Women] Get It Right

I don’t need to expound with a long blog post. I’m just going to play some songs for you so you can listen and hear the perspective of men who’ve evolved into committed relationship mode. Yes, it does happen – often! When a woman meets and vets the right man, magic happens. When there is mutual respect and affection with a focus on building a life together then it’s all gravy!

Not that it’s conflict-free [that would be boring], but a beautiful coupling can take place that lifts spirits and makes hearts soar. Which is the way things are supposed to be!

Enrique Iglesias – Hero

If this man (or whomever floats your boat) asked if he could be your hero and kiss away your pain how could you say no? Only if you’re a fool!

Bruno Mars – Just The Way You Are

There’s not a thing that I would change/Cuz you’re amazing/Just the way you are   — AMEN!!

Eric Clapton – Wonderful Tonight

Such a great song about where this couple is in their relationship.

Mr. Mister – Broken Wings

Baby think tonight/We can take what was wrong/And make it right

YES!!! Thank you!!

Barry White – You Are The First, My Last, My Everything

I think he’s in love….

Train – Marry Me

THIS song had me at hello…

I’ll wear out the words I love you/And you’re beautiful

A guy spots a gal in a cafe and hasn’t even introduced himself to her but has already imagined their wedding day and life together. That’s some coffee!

Jason Mraz – I’m Yours

It’s our Godforsaken right to be loved!

*Bonus – Lucky w/Colbie Caillat just cuz I love this song.

The Script – Breakdown

Even through challenging times, love rules and hope abounds through asking the tough questions.

Plain White T’s – Hey There Delilah

Ah, now you tell me the tale of two young kids in love doesn’t move you! Gotta dig a man with a plan. The key to his unbridled affection is how she makes him feel — and their maturity. It reminds me of the smitten 16 year-old young man I wrote about last fall. I can imagine this as the continuation of their romance when they go off to college, especially because they’re both performers as well.

  1. Ladies…seriously…do NOT link any known, flagrant and unapologetic MISOGYNIST’S songs here [or ANY post]. What are you thinking!
The Cure’s Lovesong is another example of what I’m focusing on. Clearly decipherable lyrics praising someone.

      1. It’s a slippery slope. Guys that brag about penis ‘poking’ women/oral sex in bathrooms in the most vulgar manner are FOUL to the core. Does he kiss his mama or daughter with the same mouth?R Kelly has written a few good inspirational songs. Didn’t stop him from peeing on a child and sexual assault. Innocence and being found not guilty aren’t the same!!

  2. I can think of a few love songs I will always replay:

-- Para tu Amor by Juanes. It was written for his wife and yes its in Spanish but if you translate the words are beautiful.

-- Sour Girl by Stone Temple Pilots. Another written for a wife but its more about a man in love who’s seeing his loved one leaving him.

-- Stellar by Incubus. Just some great lyrics. A really beautiful song and video.
[Faith here: I edited out the link of that DBR rap artist you linked to. NO WAY! ]

  3. "Grenade" is my favorite Bruno Mars love song:

. It's about forlorn love, which is a bit sad but it demonstrates how powerfully men can fall in love.

    1. I don’t like Grenade as much because he’s ranting about doing too much for a woman and it’s about an imbalanced, unhealthy relationship. For the purposes of this post I only want us focusing on love as triumphant and overcoming obstacles.

  4. I LOVE hearing Billy Joel sing "Just the Way You Are". When I first heard that song as an adult (and really understood the words), I thought to myself, "That's how I want to be loved. I want a man to say that to me." I know I was feeling kind of down the last week or so, after learning that someone who I thought had a good marriage was having an affair. But, at my new job, there is the REALLY NICE doctor who made me think, "I would like to marry a man like that." He's kind/courteous, seems compassionate, a little nerdy (which I LIKE), but cute. One of my coworkers was telling me how nice he is and how he recently married. She said he was "glowing". He appears to be in his mid 40s. After learning this, I felt encouraged, because it's nice to learn of people who are working hard to be their best selves and seeking/finding love and commitment even after 30+. (lol) I don't know him personally, but based on the way he carries himself, he seems like a man who has family and marriage values that are similar to mine. I'm glad to know that type of man still exists. So, I feel better. 🙂

  5. OMG Jason Mraz! Yes yes yes on this WHOLE playlist! Okay, and I know it's not a man professing his love and all, but I LOVE "I Do" by Colby Calliet; has me dancing all up in the car! 🙂

    1. Glad you enjoyed it. Jason reminds me of a hippie, granola-crunch type but he’s probably anything but.
