Don’t Let Anyone Stop You From Getting Out of DBR-Ville!

Did you hear President Obama weigh in on the arrest of Henry Louis Gates last night? You know it had to be a big deal to get Obama to actually say something about race.

“But I think it’s fair to say, No. 1, any of us would be pretty angry; No. 2, that the Cambridge police acted stupidly in arresting somebody when there was already proof that they were in their own home; and, No. 3 … that there’s a long history in this country of African-Americans and Latinos being stopped by law enforcement disproportionately.”

The incident, Obama said, shows “how race remains a factor in this society.”

President Obama talking about the arrest of one of his friends might prompt you to sing “Shiny Happy People” or “Don’t Worry Be Happy” and be lulled into a sense of complacency. This is just the quiet moment before all hell literally breaks loose.

Mayor E. Denise Simmons (who is African-American) said on CNN’s “American Morning.” “The situation is certainly unfortunate. This can’t happen again in Cambridge.” She called Dr. Gates to apologize.

The officer, Sgt. James Crowley, told CNN affiliate WCVB earlier Wednesday: “There are not many certainties in life, but it is for certain that Sgt. Crowley will not be apologizing,” he said. (He speaks of himself in the 3rd person and is unrepentant. In other words white ppl don’t care abt charges of racism fm blacks anymore)

Crowley wrote in the Cambridge police report that Gates refused to step outside to speak with him and when Crowley told Gates that he was investigating a possible break-in, Gates opened the front door and exclaimed, “Why, because I’m a black man in America?”

The report said Gates initially refused to show the officer identification, but eventually produced a Harvard identification card, prompting Crowley to radio for Harvard University Police. (Gates disputes this)

“While I was led to believe that Gates was lawfully in the residence, I was quite surprised and confused with the behavior he exhibited toward me,” Crowley said, according to the report.

Gates said that although the ordeal had upset him, “I would do the same thing exactly again.”

So we have police officers trained to kill who can doctor police reports being challenged by a middle-aged AAbm who needs a cane to walk. He wants to grandstand with them when had he chose to be humble the situation would have likely not occurred at all. He could’ve filed a complaint later and spoken to the Mayor personally. Instead he could have been wound up dead. We know police are overusing tasers to subdue people upon arrest. Anything could have happened but Dr. Gates wants to use this moment to try to assert his “authority”.

See when we discuss the mentality of destruction that’s prevalent in the dead “black community” model – this is just par for the course. There’s still this prevalence for assigning the white oppressor as the Big Bad and the “black man” as the number one target. It completely shuts out black women and is sexist. Black women, specifically AA bw are getting it from all sides.

To even mention this brings out the charges of “hating black men” when they know this isn’t true but it benefits them to continue their victim dance instead of doing anything to help. They can use the “I’m oppressed” excuse to justify all of their discrimination against black women and try to blame us..for everything. Because they can’t retaliate against white men directly. I also just had a thought that this also fuels a lot of these insecure, inadequate “victims” into chasing after white women with such vigor. They’re trying to stick it them through the women. Literally.

Also the second series of Black In America aired last night. Now I didn’t watch it so I’m only going by what I read. They showed very well-off people who tended to be on the paler skin-shade spectrum OR it was poverty stragglers. They didn’t talk about the OOW birth rates, the educated but single black woman (who only dates BM) or present a dour message. Everything was supposed to be fine according to them. Now that we’ve got a black President.

If you don’t continue devising your escape from the Matrix plans you will be left to perish. Don’t fall for the okey doke. While some people are patting themselves on the back or digging in their heels we still have black girls in peril that NO ONE IS SPEAKING FOR.

Case in point: An 8 year old is gang-raped by four boys between the ages of 9-14, some of whom live in her apartment complex. As if that wasn’t bad enough, CPS had to remove her because of her parent’s attitude towards her.

In other words they’re blaming her for getting raped and want to punish her some more. Just like the so many other black girls and women are blamed for the things that happen to them as a result of the DBRs wrecking havoc on their lives.

Now if anyone is still confused about whether there’s an all-out assault on black girls and women snap out of it. Let the President weigh in on that!!

P.S. I just checked my sidebar and The Field Negro is standing up for us (as he is one of the few black male bloggers that do by the way). He asks if the good Dr. Gates spoke up for Chanequa Campbell. He discusses the sexism, the skin shade racism and classism. Something we black female bloggers have been discussing and being derided for of course.

  1. @Jazine"As soon as I heard about the Gates arrest I just shrugged my shoulders."I did the same thing. And I was disgusted when I heard about the gang rape of the 8 year old girl.

  2. I didn't even bother to watch CNN last night because I knew CNN wasn't going to dig deep and address the real issues that are going on in the Black community. I'll admit that when I heard about what happened to Professor Gates I was pretty indignant myself but then after reading the police report, I realize that there is more to the story that is being presented. Nevertheless deep down I really don't care because Black women are constantly being violated and abuse yet there is nothing being done by the collective "black community." It's as if we are disposable goods and unworthy of protection. The sad part is that most of the abuses inflicted upon Black women are from other BLACK MEN! I made a status update on my facebook about the 8 year old girl who was gang raped. I had no replies. However when I discussed the Gates situation, I received about 50+ responses about racism and the Black man being oppressed. At this point I’m going to invest my resources towards Black women and girls getting out because no one else gives a damn. Although I didn’t grow up in a dysfunctional environment and lived a very blessed life, I can’t ignore what is going on with women who LOOK JUST LIKE ME. I’m going to sit back and see how much publicity the story about the 8 year old girl gets. I wonder who is going to be her advocate.

  3. I'm just reposting the comment I left over on WAOD here…I hear you loud and clear Faith. When I saw the headline of that atrocity on CNN this afternoon, I already knew the victim was a black girl.I couldn’t even bare to open the link and won’t.I’ve begun shielding myself somewhat from these horrors. Just to function without being haunted by these horrible accounts that are being reported. And no, of course you won’t be hearing from the President, Sharpton, Jesse, or any other so called “black leader” speaking on this victims behalf.Remember, the victim is FEMALE and black. Black males have basically cornered the market when it comes to victim status in the eyes of the so called “bc”.All I know is more BW need to totally divest emotionally, financially, and most importantly PHYSICALLY, from this so called “community” that continues to hold them AND their vulnerable daughters in obvious contempt. And when I say divest, what I really mean is STOP assuming black strangers -- especially black male strangers -- automatically have your best interest in mind. Stop assuming your automatically safer in majority black environments and that the “community” “has your back”.Stop giving blind support and pledging your allegiance to folks who don’t return the favor.Treat people the SAME regardless of “race” ACROSS THE BOARD.Stop making excuses for depravity. And start demanding that people EARN your respect whoever they are. That’s not too much to ask.And as for Gates, I’ve noticed he’s apparently turned a blind eye to the original instigator of this mess.A white woman (surprise surprise) named LUCIA WHALEN who’s a 40 year old fundraiser for Harvard Magazine.http://www.jambonetwork.com/blog/?p=55912http://afronetizen.blogs.com/files/gatesarrestreport072109.pdfI think it’s very likely she knew good and well that was Gates all along. So… IMO he needs to spread his outrage and charges of racism around. And that’s a DARN good point about his failing to support Chanequa Campbell.I’d forgotten about that. Thanks for the reminder. To sum things up, BW would be wise to start concentrating on the injustices happening to THEM.

  4. Celeste: Venting has its uses. If only more black women would get fed up AND then stop supporting people and entities that don't support them, more of us would live full lives.Anonymous: You violated my posting terms and I don't allow for the rantings of a DBR on my blog.

  5. Hi Faith,Real mean don't like to be seen as victims even when they really are. Real men just suck it up and suffer in silence. They put all of their energy into protecting their women, not putting focus on their victimhood. Once bm were truly victims, now they like to play the victim. I'm looking at TV right now where an 8 year old girl was raped by 4 boys. Her family blames her, an 8 year old! and says she brought shame to the family because of their culture. This is an opportunity for black male leaders to show that AA men don't condone the rape of any black female, no matter the culture. Surely, they can't let this stand without making a comment, it will really show them up. Black women are always out in the street protesting for them at the least little infraction. None of them (bm) are raped on a daily basis. White folks on TV are outraged about the incident, and all I hear from black leadership are crickets. BW should let bm hear crickets when they want us to protest some "injustice" done to them. Thanks for letting me ventCeleste

  6. Anonymous: I know that was featured in BIA 1. I also provided a link to the story where you can read the rest of the information. I do expect people to do their own research for whatever they read from whatever source -- even from me.

  7. They didn’t talk about the OOW birth rates, the educated but single black woman (who only dates BM) or present a dour message. Actually that was BIA 1. And you didn't point out that the girl who got raped and the rapists were Liberian refugees. I am not familiar with the Liberian community, but the cops said that rape is a source of shame

  8. CW: The only victims are black boys and men of course. Everything else is just something we've made up.Jazine: Yeah I'm only talking about Gates to show the usual hypocrisy that surrounds these situations. We bloggers will continue to discuss these matters of importance when it comes to black girls and women.bluebutterfly: I feel for your client but I cannot be concerned with the trials and tribulations of black males. They ALWAYS have someone defending them. Even the President spoke about this. Yet he's said nothing about Dr. Benjamin being attacked or of any other black females for that matter -- including his own wife. I remember his silence last year and I did NOT like it, campaign advice or not. There will be NO relief until black people repent of their sexism and homophobia against each other. No one should be waiting around for that to happen either. Get out and let everyone be held accountable for themselves.

  9. Faith, what can I say? This HATRED ON ALL SIDES have become so deeply rooted that not even humility is a defense. When anyone (except deadly criminals who are packing AK-47s and don't care if they live or die)is facing an officer with guns and tasers, they are likely to get nervous, have fearful thoughts of dying or harm; and react without thinking. One of my clients was delivering newspapers (in a vehicle with clear windows and & name of the newspaper company clearly identifiable) a fews years ago in a very wealthy neighborhood, he noticed 2 cars following him and started to get nervous, but kept delivering papers. He finally got on a narrow part of a road when, suddenly 1 car came to an abrupt stop in front of him and 1 stopped behind him. He thought he was dead. No lights, nothing to indicate who had cornered him. He could not back out or go forward. A minute later 2 men got out, started shining lights into his vehicle and in his face. They then said they were the police. Kept him there for a while. Then took off. This behavior happens every day to hard working, honest people who are seemingly facing 2 enemies: rouge cops & armed criminals. We need some serious resolutions so our children can live in peace.

  10. As soon as I heard about the Gates arrest I just shrugged my shoulders. I truly don’t care anymore. This prominent AA male scholar is lucky to still have his head on. He got indignant because he mistakenly was identified as part of the black underclass and got treated like one. One thing is for sure, either Gates or Crowley is lying about what really happened that night, and I suspect both parties are stretching their version of the truth. There is no wide public news release on the daily onslaught of black girls and women. Black women for the longest have been racially profiled at airports for illegal strip searches for drug possession. This phenomenon flew under the radar by our so called black leaders and was shown as a news special on a couple of shows like Dateline. I do believe some of the black female victims filed lawsuits. No one cares about law enforcement brutality against black girls and women. You won’t see President Obama making a statement regarding it. I’m so sick and tired of black men taking center stage anytime injustice has been thrown their way. Everyone should stop what they’re doing and take notice! SMH. I agree that they will not give up their righteous victimhood status anytime soon-too many perks come attached with it.
