Womanly Words Of Wisdom: Anais Nin

We do not grow absolutely, chronologically. We grow sometimes in one dimension, and not in another; unevenly. We grow partially. We are relative. We are mature in one realm, childish in another. The past, present, and future mingle and pull us backward, forward, or fix us in the present. We are made up of layers, cells, constellations.

What’s On Your Bookshelf?

Be it physical or digital does your book stack measure up against people who are innovators and career trailblazers? Not to compare taste, but in consideration of how those of us trying to push the envelope on our success can still learn and be influenced in ways that benefit us. I bookmarked the You Are What You Read post from Tim Ferriss’ Four Hour Workweek site and started thinking about some of my favorite books growing up, like A Tree Grows In Brooklyn. Then moving into womanhood, The House Of The Spirits really resonated with me in ways I didn’t understand at the time. Or as an adult how being inspired in still so important, like The Alchemist. And there’s a lot of industry-related books and thoughts on emerging technologies, historical novels, and I’ve learned from reading Dr. Seuss more than I ever understood as a child.

What about you?

Sprint Has The Best Set Of Commercials This Year With Darth Vader & Alex DeLarge

That would be actors James Earl Jones and Malcolm McDowell (and two of their most famous roles from Star Wars and A Clockwork Orange respectively). They basically play two old men reenacting phone calls, Facebook status updates and messages in the At Sprint, Everything’s Important campaign that is totally adorbs! I’m not a Sprint customer, but these ads are very clever. I keep seeing folks sharing at one ad I haven’t seen on my social media timelines, so I believe they’ve shot at least five and counting.

I’m sure they were offered a lot of money to do these commercials as the punch line is that it’s older male actors of a certain stature using tween social media-speak which seems incongruent to their image. Sprint was very clever in poking fun at our behavior. Who hasn’t gone out with another person to have an entire conversation with them over the phone while in the same physical location? Or sent Twitter and Facebook messages while in the next room inlieu of talking? Do they even know what they’re saying??? Hahaha!!

David Bowie and Iman | Mr. and Mrs. Jones

They met on October 1990 on a blind date set up by a mutual friend, Teddy Antolin, who was also their hairdresser.

Bowie fell in love with her at first sight:

“I was naming the children the night we met … it was absolutely immediate.” However, Iman was reluctant to a date a rock star. In an interview she shared, “I did not want to get involved with a rock star. No way. It is not a sane thing to do, but David changed my mind. He wooed me.”

“I remember once we went out to dinner and the laces on my trainers came undone, and David was down on his knees in the middle of the street, tying them for me. I thought to myself, ‘This one’s a keeper.’”
